This is a friendly reminder that garden project are year round. and 2 hours long.
On Sunday June 5 we had our garden meeting. It was a small turn out. We looked over the tomatoes and pinch off the tomatoes suckers. Then we planted melons and cucumbers. We also took care of some bugs that was eating our pumpkins.
County Record Books:
4-H Record Book Competition 2016 Important Dates: June 30th: Members must complete an “Intent to Submit Form” to the County office if they are planning to or thinking about submitting their book to County (for Intermediate and Senior members) and State Competition (for Senior members) Completing this form does not obligate the member to submit, rather it is intended to alert the County volunteers and Staff working with the record books so that they are prepared to provide support to members. June 30th: Members must complete the “Record Book Quick Start Course” if they plan to submit their book to County and State Competition (for Intermediate and Senior members) This is earlier than the past two years so that members have ample time to review and prepare their record books. They must complete this even if they have completed this in the past. August 8th: Members must turn in their “Record Books” to their Record Book or Club Leaders for County Evaluation. Date of judging to be determined. (the judging will be mid to end of August) October 3rd: State Record Books are due to the County office. October 21st: Record Books for State Competition must ARRIVE to State Office November 4th – 6th: State Record Book Competition: You can submit your Record Book for judging at 3 levels (Club, County, and State); however, per Santa Clara County guidelines, you must first qualify at the previous level before going on to the next level.
Submit your book through the Online Record Book system (ORB) or by hard copy and adhere to the prerequisites and deadlines listed below for each level. You should have a green record book cover to put all papers in, let us know if you need a green cover. CLUB LEVEL Submit your book to Catherine Kilkenny and Fiona Reyes by Thursday, July 7th, so that your book is ready to submit to Fair. Call (408-307-5874) or e-mail us in advance to set up a time to hand in your book to Fiona's house. Club Judging will be the weekend of July 9th and 10th, we need adult volunteers to help judge, so let us know if you are available. RecordBooks will be returned by Saturday, July 16 for revisions. COUNTY LEVEL Required prerequisite if you plan on submitting your book for County judging:

On Sunday, May 1, the project leaders went over some items that need some attention by the youth.. After the long discussion, we voted on what we wanted to do. Then we split into two groups, the begging level help cleaned up the butterfly garden while the advance level worked on some letter to ask for donations. Today is the day the youth planted all of there seed in the greenhouse. They planted melons, garlic, tomatoes, cucumbers, basil and red pumpkin. Did Anyone get pictures? If so, email them to the Project Leaders. On Sunday, December 6, the 4-hers worked really hard in the Garden Learning Center. They pulled out weeds to make room for new plant in the raised beds. They also dug up tons of sweet potatoes and golden potatoes. We talked about what they wanted to plant in the raise bed for spring and summer.. After harvesting and washing all those potatoes, the kids celebrated there hard work with hot coco and Ice cream. Everyone had a great time and took home a hand full of sweet potatoes. Thank you parents for all of your help.
On November 1, 2015 we had our project meeting, after the announcements went into our groups, begin and advance level. After the group we finished building our green house.
Don't Forget about the Homesteaders Club traditions: The Orchard Scary. Its our way to have a 4H club halloween/ harvest party. There will be food, face painting, costume contest and other games at 6-8pm on October 30,2015. 4-Hers please come and join us.
Sunday, October 4, 2015 was our first Project Meeting. We have new faces this year. Welcome New Members!! In our meeting we went over the rules of the garden and our project goals. We started filling out the Annual Project Report forms and the proficiencies forms. The youth leaders are really excited about earning our project pin, record booking rewards and our proficiencies pins. Later in the meeting our youth where separated into two groups. Advance and the beginning. Then got together again at the end of the meeting to finish out A.P.R.'s and .P.F forms. In the beginning class learned about parts of the plant and their functions. We also learn to identify parts of the vegetable that is a the root, flower, stem, leaves and veggie. We planted our first winter garden. We planted mix green salad, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. I'm looking forward eating some fresh grown carrots. yum. In the advance class, they learned how to read the information off of the seed packets. This information tells us how long the plant matures, how far the plants needed to be planted apart, when to harvest and what season and time to plant. They also learned how to transplant broccoli into the garden raised bed and planted carrots seeds to. Our next garden project meeting is on Nov. 1, 2015 at 4pm. and our next club meeting in on Nov. 12, 2015 at 7:15pm at the Pomeroy Elementary School.
