Sunday, October 4, 2015 was our first Project Meeting. We have new faces this year. Welcome New Members!!
In our meeting we went over the rules of the garden and our project goals. We started filling out the Annual Project Report forms and the proficiencies forms. The youth leaders are really excited about earning our project pin, record booking rewards and our proficiencies pins. Later in the meeting our youth where separated into two groups. Advance and the beginning. Then got together again at the end of the meeting to finish out A.P.R.'s and .P.F forms.
In the beginning class learned about parts of the plant and their functions. We also learn to identify parts of the vegetable that is a the root, flower, stem, leaves and veggie. We planted our first winter garden. We planted mix green salad, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. I'm looking forward eating some fresh grown carrots. yum.
In the advance class, they learned how to read the information off of the seed packets. This information tells us how long the plant matures, how far the plants needed to be planted apart, when to harvest and what season and time to plant. They also learned how to transplant broccoli into the garden raised bed and planted carrots seeds to.
Our next garden project meeting is on Nov. 1, 2015 at 4pm. and our next club meeting in on Nov. 12, 2015 at 7:15pm at the Pomeroy Elementary School. Please look at our Homesteader Club website for future club events.
